Lethal Ball Python Combonations

By · Comments (0)

Kevin McCurley from N.E.R.D and Raphael Martinez from MA Balls discuss and share about genetic combonations in ball pythons that have been proven to be completely unsuccessful or produce deformed or unhealthy snakes.

A great video for ball python breeders to watch so they know what kind of combinations to avoid producing or the risk involved with certain crossings.

Political Page Cleaned Up

By · Comments (0)

I just cleared all the old news off of the Political News page. All of the information and news that was posted there is no longer relevant for 2011. Currently there is no real news to post but I did share a little bit about what we accomplished last year and what we can expect in the future politically speaking. There are also links to stay connected with and support USARK.

It is rumored that S373 ‘The Python Ban’ may be included in a large omnibus Natural Resources Bill during the ‘Lame Duck’ session of Congress from now until the end of the legislative session. This provides the Reptile Nation an opportunity to kill S373 once and for all! Do Not allow powerful special interests to railroad S373 through in the 11th hour. Follow the link below and contact your two US Senators and ask them to oppose S373. USARK needs your help to Kill S373! Please take this opportunity to help win a great victory for the Reptile Nation.

Last Christmas USARK and the Reptile Nation rallied and produced a massive letter writing campaign that derailed S373… even after it passed Committee. Now we must reaffirm with our Senators strong opposition to this ill conceived legislation. If we turn out big numbers we will win again! Now is the opportunity to finish off S373 once and for all! Please spread the word to the four corners of the Reptile Nation. Forward this communiqué to your friends, family, co-workers, social networks and forums. There is Strength in Numbers… Protect Your Rights!

Crackdown on Reptile Smuggling

By · Comments (0)

Smuggler

There has been a recent crackdown on reptile and amphibian smuggling around the world. The effort was coordinated by INTERPOL and involved 51 countries on 5 continents. Thousands of animals were seized and over $30 million worth of products were confiscated, many arrests were also made around the world. The two month long operation focused on the illegal trade of endangered reptiles and amphibians such as tortoises and snakes.

In my opinion the public is largely ignorant to this issue and is unaware of how big of a problem it truly is. Reptile smuggling is a multi-million dollar business. Whether they are smuggling live animals or products such as turtle shells it puts a major strain on dwindling wild populations.

If you are looking to learn more about the issue of reptile smuggling I strongly suggest that you read the book The Lizard King by Bryan Christy. The book is based on a true story about reptile smuggling in the US and the worldwide effects it has. The book also talks about how much corruption there is related with reptile smuggling and is a real eyeopener.
